You know what's my reason for joining percussion section?
It started out back in the year 2006. I was a secondary one student & performing Band Competition for the first time. It took me 3 and a half months (Jan - March) to memorize all the steps, I was a main band member playing the euphonium. Bukit Panjang Govt. High School won a gold medal on 22nd April 2006.
During the process of band competition, I kept on checking out the percussion section. Yeah, they was cool. The gimmicks they do, the cymbal stunts and the sounds of xylophone. I wanted to join that section.
Radiah, Sarah, Gladys, Lai Cheng, Syafiqah, Vanecia, Lyanna, Eunice, Yu Lian, Jian Hui, Yu Zuo, Shi Yuan, Judith and Syahir was first few people who I knew [by face]. It took me about 8 months of negotiation from Sir, Radiah & Mr Kumar [I guess, haha]. Until February 2007 I carried the first percussion instrument, second bassdrum.
But before that, Syahir had thought me the basics - crochet, quaver, triplet & semi-quaver during one of the school term holidays and eventually I found out about his problem and that he was an ex-euphonium player and why he changed to percussion.
Now, I have come a long way to get to this section. It took me a whole lot of effort just to be part of it and I will never let others jeopardize my position.
It seems like the standard of percussion section 2006 and 2008 had changed drastically but hey, don't worry, we don't suck, we just need time. It's a matter of time that's all. And time is what we're lacking.
I don't really care what happens in this year's band competition. Gold with Honours lah, Gold lah, Silver lah, Bronze lah and Certificate of Participation lah. . . . . .wadever.
West Spring, TK, Bowen and Deyi lah. I don't care the end result. All I know in band competition 2010 I'm gonna be prepared. It's my first time performing as a percussionist in this band competition 2008 but I know that band competition 2010, I'm gonna be prepared. I need to learn from mistakes. But of coz I going to give die my best on 12 April 2006.
I don't care what others say, all I know is that I got to focus and let it out. Not happy, then stay away from me- as simple as that =)
But watch out the rest of the world!
Band Competition 2010, Bukit Panjang will rise!
