Okay people, I have watched all the nine syf band videos at youtube [search SYF 2008]. For all I care, these are my personal comments and reviews for each band.
Deyi Secondary School Band:
I'm seriously proud of you for getting the best band award and won over Tanjong Katong. Seriously you ought to deserve it. Phantom of the Opera was a good opening. Synchronized with the flags well. Deyi is scary =)
- Original Award: Gold with Honours, Best Band 2008 & Best Drum Major 2008
- My Award: Gold with Honours, Best Band 2008 & Best Drum Major 2008
Tanjong Katong Secondary School Band:
Yeah yeah yeah, it has always been the same opening for a decade. Plus you people repeated the songs over and over again through out the years. There was lack of originality. However on the other hand the dragons and chinese temple formation was quite unique.
- Original Award: Gold With Honours
- My Award: Gold With Honours [however it is a borderline mark]
West Spring Secondary School Band:
First formation was absolutely perfect. The flags were impressive although lag at certain points. Songs played were actually good. The Ago-go bell gimmick was unique. Plus, opening of Batmobile shows a good impression to the judges.
- Original Award: Silver
- My Award: Gold
Orchid Park Secondary School Band:
Followed the American Band style. Formations was well shown for a first timer band.
- Original Award: Silver
- My Award: Silver [it's better to stay that way, there's room for improvement]
Bukit Panjang Government High School Band:
The culture theme was unique as it focus all the 4 races in Singapore. Gimmicks were well enough done. Opening drum solo was messy at some parts. Overall the show is superbly nicely done. Flaws were limited and close to perfect. This is one of the most controversial bands. Silver is definitely a no no.
- Original Award: Silver
- My Award: Gold With Honours
Bowen Secondary School Band:
Speechless and no comments. Comparing among all the bands, I seriously think that you should not have gotten a gold award. You were lucky enough.
- Original Award: Gold
- My Award: Silver
Ping Yi Secondary School Band:
I must understand that you have separated from Springfield and therefore you people had a hard time.
- Original Award: Silver
- My Award: Gold
Springfield Secondary School Band:
Same reason as Ping Yi Band.
- Original Award: Bronze
- My Award: Silver
Yussof Ishak Secondary School Band:
You people seriously are lucky this year to get Silver. The flags performance was totally messy. Comparing to Deyi Band's flag was like a huge distance. Orange flag with Orange coloured uniform does not suites. Must have contrast. However, the drum sounds improved. I believe that you people can do better than this. Get a gold on 2010.
- Original Award: Silver
- My Award: Bronze
All the comments made are taken into consideration based on the videos on youtube. Seriously, i watched the videos many many times. You will agree with me if you watched them. Search for SYF 2008.
